Custom Work: the boaty shirt

Early last year, my husband and I were travelling back home to the UK to settle down after living in New Zealand for seven years. We decided to tick some more countries off our list on the way. After a few stops along the way in Australia, Japan & Italy, we arrived in Greece to live on a boat with our pals Jake & Sarah for two weeks.

And what a fortnight it was! Neither of us had ever sailed before but we both fell in love with life on the ocean, aboard our friend's beautiful vessel Solanje.

This year, Jake's Mum Jane commissioned me to make a shirt as a surprise gift for him....and I couldn't resist suggesting a nautical theme for the fabric!

Here is the result.

As a little surprise bonus, I embroidered the boat's name on the sail of a yacht featured on the patch pocket. It's these subtle personalisations that really make the difference between a bespoke piece, and something you could buy off the rack.

The week after completing this commission, I also finished up another custom men's shirt in

an amazing Liberty Tana Lawn that's been in my stash since my time working at The Fabric Store in NZ! You just can't beat a jazzy shirt and this number will look great worn open over a tee with jeans.

If you're interested in having a shirt made in your own choice of fabric, feel free to get in touch by either sending an email or filling out a bespoke enquiry form with some initial details. I'll then get in touch with you to discuss your ideas and give you a rough timescale based on my current availability.
